♥What is Crochet?♥

Crochet hooks

I'm so glad you've decided to learn more about the beautiful art of crochet. Simply put, crochet can be described as weaving loops of material together using a hook. The material can be yarn, thread, or just about any strands of material bendable enough for weaving. The name Crochet is French for hook.

~So what's the differnce between crochet and knit?~

Well for one, knitting requires at least two long needles, whereas crochet only needs one hook. Keep in mind a crochet hook is not equal to knitting needles. The designs of these tools are very different. A crochet hook is typically short and has a literal hook at the end. Knitting needles look like giant sewing needles without the little eye on the end. Knitting needles also require you to have needle stoppers to keep your project on the needles when you take a break. With crochet hooks, you can just set down your project without worries of it unraveling. As a bonus, if you get tired of one project in crochet, you can just pull the hook out and start a new project. Knitting would require a second set of needles to work two projects at once.

Knit and crochet have two very different techniques. You transfer loops from needle to another with knit, and only it has a few stitches you can do without it unraveling at your feet. Crochet is more like braiding using loops and has endless different stitches that can be done. A few basic stitches of crochet written in American terms are chain(ch), single crochet(sc), double crochet(dc), treble crochet(tc). Most other stitches are just variants or groups of these basic stitches.
